SHAWN HELVEY, LCPC, WFR

Shawn Helvey is a therapist, mentor, and coach who specializes in working with young men transitioning from adolescence into adulthood. He has done considerable work in a wilderness setting, ranging from co-leading trips with groups of young men to coordinating therapeutic retreats with them and their families. He earned his master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Central Florida in 2015 and is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Montana and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee.

Shawn served as the Program Manager of the Greater Gallatin Day Treatment Center with Youth Dynamics where he developed the structure and served in a therapeutic role working with young people in need of greater support than the public school can provide. In 2016, Shawn founded ManMade Mentors in Bozeman, Montana.

Shawn works with teens, young adults, and families across the country in person and via telehealth offering therapy, mentoring, and parent coaching services. He is also a clinical supervisor consulting with and supporting therapists who are actively pursuing Montana state licensure. In his free time, Shawn enjoys spending time with family, staying active, and exploring new places.

Therapy Modalities: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Shawn is passionate about developing the next generation of mental health counselors. Each licensure candidate below was chosen because Shawn felt their life and professional experience have prepared them to be effective helpers.

AMANDA KUEHN FORNEY, PCLC

Amanda enjoys working with people of all ages, from teens to older adults. Her passion is helping clients tap into greater wellness and balance in their lives, empowering them to make changes and nurture their own resilience with gentle guidance. She approaches therapy with a creative and open mindset, helping clients find what works for them.

Whether it's developing new stress reduction skills, holding space for hard emotions, processing trauma, or learning new, healthy ways to be in relationship with others, it is a privilege for her to provide support and guidance in others' healing journeys. Her professional background includes advocacy for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault, providing therapeutic services for older adults in assisted living, and seeing a wide range of clients in private practice.

In her spare time, Amanda loves hanging out with her husband, two kids, and three cats. Gardening and growing things, going for drives in the beautiful Montana scenery, playing video games, reading, cooking, and embracing her messy, creative side through art, music, and dancing are a few things that interest her, and that list always seems to be growing!

LUKE FORNEY, PCLC

Luke (he/him) works with people ranging in age from teenagers to adults. He believes that everyone can achieve greater wellness through human connection and a discovery of what makes our lives meaningful. Everyone is unique, and Luke believes therapy should reflect that. He loves to help navigate wellness with people, whether that involves identity exploration, building resilience and practicing tools to navigate barriers to wellness, or creating a supportive space to heal from trauma.

Luke's professional background includes providing training to businesses on LGBTQ+ inclusivity in personal and professional settings, background in the neurodivergent experience, therapeutic services for clients in the Bozeman area in multiple settings, and high school English.

Balancing work within the larger space of our daily lives is critical, and Luke has lots of interests and hobbies. He is married, and has two children at home. They also have three cats, who like to think of themselves as additional children.

Luke's favorite hobby is reading, which he does voraciously. He is a huge supporter of the Colorado Avalanche and Green Bay Packers, a passionate music fan, enjoys competitive card games, and vainly hopes that one day he will be able to beat his wife in Mario Kart.
